2009 NABBA/WFF International championships

December 16th, 2009 — 4:40pm

2009 NABBA/WFF International championships;

This is an excerpt from Hard Core Aussie Muscles article on the show,

WFF Masters

This was another handy little class of 4,with WFF Legend Wayne Wilson proving once again how suited his physique is to the WFF criteria.

Waynes physique really stood out in this class. His beautiful upper body shape is hard to beat, as is his famous six-pack. He hit all of his classic “wayne”poses and was a strong winner,

WFF Universe 5 June 2008

June 5th, 2008 — 8:52pm

Article i wrote for hard core Aussie muscle

WFF Universe 08

I was not looking forward to another long flight to Germany, my fifth in a row. I prefer travelling straight through, transfer in Singapore, arrive and relax travel done! When checking in I asked politely “is it possible to have an aisle seat with no one sitting next to me as I’ve had serious back issues (I pointed to my scars nasty! ) and travel poorly” . Hey it’s the truth, and on a packed plane both ways I had no one next to me, aah Singapore Airlines fantastic.

Upon arrival I’m booked at the Frankfurt Sheraton after sleeping on the plane (valium to relax my neck of course). I feel pretty good, even do a little shopping – under the airport is everything you need. That evening Al and Kristian roll up, they had agreed to share my room and at $528 aud/night that’s cool with me, we have a chat and Al lay on the bed and he’s out like a light.

Paul arrives Friday morning and we head to breakfast. Interesting to see Al have chicken breast with nutella in it, omelettes with nutella, (I thought I liked the stuff). We have great conversations getting to know each other, this is where the fun begins – unique personality’s all thrown together with a common interest.

We meet the other team members in the lobby at 12pm – Graeme, Jake, Nick, Jimmy, Taylor, Adrianne, Dane. After a few language barrier issues we begin the 2 hour train trip to Fulda where the competition is held.

Arriving at the venue for registration and room assignment, it takes about an hour standing in a line that didn’t move. Some are getting frustrated, me I’m used to it. As I get closer I realize its guys organising everything – say no more.

I get assigned to the Casino Hotel the best have stayed at in all my trips. Beautiful views of the mountains and fields and only 100 metres walk from the venue. Poor Paul and Taylor were about 4kms away and on the day of the comp we arranged for Paul to come stay at our hotel.

Breakfast the day of the show. All are in attendance including Wayne of GMV (man I love his stories). Some are starting to carb up, the mood is good, expectations high.

Grading at 1pm to be placed in one of 4 classes – Fitness, Performance, Athletic, Superbody, Extreme if necessary. I find myself on stage with 19 men from 40 to 49 – once again I am in the final 4 to be paced in Superbody which my lower body certainly is not. Grading ran from oldest to youngest so I get to watch to other boys from the audience.

The night show rolls around. Al goes out in the Performance line up, flexes those quads and is told to leave the stage and come back in Athletic! I think Jesus what if he turned around and flashed those sliced glutes – you could grate cheese on them! He places second, an awesome achievement. Kristian is looking great and takes 5th in a tough Superbody class.

After the grading Graeme’s ( NABBA/WFF world vice president ) comments give me hope of a win, but hours of eating transforms Paul’s physique. Paul takes his top off and there went my Universe, he was freaky as usual and ends up in first place. Thinking I am a lock on second I am called third. I mumble shit more out of surprise. Graeme also looks surprised. I was really happy to keep my run of top 3 placings in tact. I just stood there and soaked it all in as I knew I was going to retire after this show.( Note ;Something i have since reconsidered, AGAIN !, dont pay attention to me show time )

Got some snaps with the boys after we left stage, trophies in hand we are all really pleased. It’s not a local show, the standard is high and the Aussies have a great track record.

Absolutely starving, the four of us head to Hungry Jacks the only place open at 3.15am. In line before us are about 8 young Germans off their freakin faces. Paul was giving them good old Aussies shit but they seemed to warm to him. Somehow he got passed the lot of them to the front of the queue, and had their free meal vouchers in hand without belting one of them, which as passive as I am, I wish he had done. All Al wanted was a sundae, not in a little cup in the biggest mutha he could find – one you would get a large coke in with heaps of chocolate topping. The 12 year old kids serving us did not understand, so he just hopped the counter and goes “look”, grabs the topping and starts pouring it on! Way to go Al! That’s my favorite after a show, probably because I’m so dehydrated. We knocked off two of Al’s special sundaes, burgers, fries, onion rings etc.

Full and tired Al took us cross country on the way home, the first time my Asics had seen mud! But at least they didn’t rely on my sense of direction as it’s shit house – we would have wound up in Budapest! 4.30am and finally in bed.

We awake at 7am for breakfast, catch up with all the crew from the night before and discuss the show. The mood is great, the pressure is off and everyone seems happy. Graeme asks if I’m still retired, yes!

We headed to Frankfurt to see Kristian off as he had a flight to catch. I dropped my bags at the Sheraton and headed in to meet Paul and Al in the city. When I arrived Al was posting on BOLEX!! Gotta love it! This is the time you get to relax, chat, talk about life – it’s the heart of why I have been so many times and I am blessed again to meet some really lovely people. Life long friendships can, and are made. We eat at every opportunity, ice cream, chilli, cake (Paul and Al even ate chicken salad WTF!) Al’s guts where starting to look like he’d swallowed a bowling ball! Mine look like I’d swallowed a turtle! Paul just grew! By 4pm, nearly falling asleep we decide to call it a day. I bid the guys farewell big bear hugs for them. They have decided to travel together for the next week or so in Europe.

If you ever get the opportunity to travel to one of these trips, grab it with both hands as the memories last a life time.

NABBA/WFF Australian Championships 2007

November 7th, 2007 — 8:51pm

I am back at the nationals, as i normally just do the WFF southern hemispere Championships in may and the WFF Universe in June this is the first time i have contested this event for a few years and its great to be back, there are so many great friends i have made over the years that i get to catch up with at this event, I told the promoter and NABBA/WFF world vice president Graeme Lancefield that i did not want a trophy at this event i just wanted him to see what i am capable of and how i look in the gym a few days before a competition as invariably i quite often do not look as good , i feel after all my comps Graeme has still never seen me at my best . After following the same prep the last few days that i did for the QLDs two weeks earlier my wish came true and in the absolute best shape of my life in a quality line up i won the WFF masters title it should be noted that this is an 0/35s event not 0/40 so i was considerably older that some at nearly 45 , The following quote from videographer extraordonair Wayne Gallasch posted on his website sums it up ( thank you for the kind words Wayne ) MR. ATHLETIC OVER 35 CLASS In this class, WAYNE WILSON now of Qld completely destroyed this class in the best condition I have ever seen from Wayne. Over the years I have filmed him many times in the WFF Universe in Germany but never in this condition. He was full yet lean and shredded. He does the rope and vacuum poses, 2 poses rarely seen these days. If he can hold this quality of form and his physique next time he competes overseas, that elusive first place award should be his. Country Classsic Invitational

September 7th, 2007 — 8:48pm

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, I left Brisbane airport at 6.00am, but didn’t end up getting to Bendigo until about 4.00pm. 10hrs of mucking around due to heavy fog in Melb. I had a gave the promoter arunning update on where i was thanks to Eddy Tannourji & he calling each other. I did my very best to the venue on time to do the Masters line-up, but it was not meant to be. I was really looking forward and excited to be a part of the comp this year, it was going to be great heading back to Melbourne to compete and i wanted to be in great condition as i knew there would be so many old friends there watching ,so i pulled out all stops to be in shape, One of the upsides is with that extra motivation i really think it was about my best ever overall look , so i did get to achieve my goal, I must say i was a little upset ( and i do handle stress quite well ) when we where driving to the venue and were 20 mins away i was getting a rundown on my mobile as my class hit the stage LOL, thanks Nev. You know if i knew at 10 am i was not going to make it ,its like ok, but we were always going to be so close, After my 5 minutes of moaning i thought to myself cmon man its not life and death, i knew there were many many people who had done their utmost to try to get me there on time , i owed it to them to do my best and that is what i did.

As it turned out i was allowed to do my routine as a gust pose. as i was informed that i was disqualified, but still busted his balls to make it to the show. I bumped into the promoter Craig Lucas as i was coming up the stairs & told to go backstage & get ready, as i would would be on after the Womens BBing. Toney Doherty the MC gave me a nice old intro & on i came, did my routine, then Phil Kabbakof did a wonderful thing by presenting me with the Judges Choice award. It was a $400 Seiko watch that he had donated himself to someone who he felt had “epitomized the true Aussie BBing spirit”. At the end of the day this years CCI will remain one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiances i have had in 20 years competing. There are many people i would like to thank. Eddy Tannourji , owner of nextgeneration supplements and my sponsor , a greater friend no one could have ,he had paid for booth space at the CCI and had so many other responsibiltys to attend to but was just concearned for me ,waiting at the airport for 6 hrs to rush me to the venue ,even when i said mate you better go he would not have a bar of it , Mandie and Nev , next genneration athletes , guys you pulled out all stops to help, you are both bloody champions , communicating constantly with us and Craig. Craig, like you say we have only met 3 to 4 times and chatted on the board but some people you just click with and share the same passions , Mate you went so far out of your way to accomodate me and i respect your integritiy totally , this is what will make your CCI go from strenght to strenght, if there is ever anything i can do to repay your kindness just let me know , the comp is already on my calendar next year and i will get there a day before next time LOL Vicki, i think we have only met the odd time to, but your beautiful warm nature comes across very clearly straight away, thanks for running around and helping me out. Tony, it was great to see you again, you pumped me up like bloody Ronnie Coleman was coming on thanks heaps mate it made the whole thing really worth while, it is always a pleasure to be part of a show you have anything to do with and many great memories came back of my days in the IFBB , i will not leave it that long again and as usual such a proffesional entertaining MCing of the show, Phil , your words meant a great deal to me, more than you know , Like alot of people in this industry and that where involved in the show on saturday i really try to give back to help make the whole sport/art of bodybuilding better , i know you are also one of these people. Mate i have actually been and had the watch engraved with “CCI 07 judges choice” i will where it with pride and fond memories, Thank you for your generous gesture. Sim ( sp ) from Fully Framed , the photo is awsome ,you know i have litterally done shows before just because i wanted to get a good shot of myself ,invariably some thing normally goes wrong or i am not at my best , this framed photo came out fantastic, i have showed a few people at the gym and they loved your work thanks mate, To the other masters compeditors and anyone else who hade thier division shuffled a tad i know you were inconvienianced by me, a sincere thank you for your understanding To all the back stage helpers there where many directing me you guys were amazing. To all the other compeditors well done you all looked amazing, I did get to finally relax and enjoy the open class and gee i wish i could have seen the whole show it was just so different and a really proffesional You know i commented to Tony on stage in my interview that every thing happens for a reason but i am having a little trouble figuring out what this one is ,well i already know it was just a trully amazing experiance and i was lucky to be a part of it. Well done craig and the whole team.

WFF Universe championships

July 8th, 2007 — 9:21pm

I placed 3rd in the Masters Supebody class,

The gains i had made in the last 12 months became evident to me when at grading i was  placed in the superbody divison. Last year when i placed 2nd it was in the performance class so this was a jump of two classes for me .I was happy with my size and condition but feel i was a little better at the Southern Hemisphere Championships the week prior the travel to Germany did not go to plan this year its just one of the obstatcles one faces when competing internationally,

One of the highlights of the trip was having a workout at Markus Rhuls gym and getting to meet him

NABBA/WFF Southern hemisphere

July 6th, 2007 — 9:19pm

I placed second in the WFF Masters (2 x winner of this event  previously), having made significant improvements since last year and at my heaviest ever body weight whilst  maintaing my condition, personally i think this was one of  the best  looks i have taken to the stage in all my competitons ,

Having been a national level judge myself for 12 years i must say did not agree with the judges decision this time .The WFF has a distinct criteria which i felt i met the best

Fortunatley even though i still enjoy winning  i have developed an attitude where by I am no longer that concerned with my placings, i am more into  the experiance of competing and enjoying the journey that way one can have longevity in this sport /art ,
